Sello Pesa, Vaughn Sadie – Inhabitant

Güney Afrikalı koreograf ve dansçı Sello Pesa ve aynı zamanda güncel sanatçı olan ışık tasarımcısı Vaughn Sadie’nin  Johannesburg kentinden yola çıkarak gerçekleştirdikleri Inhabitant adlı projeleri Bimeras tarafından bu yıl 5.si düzenlenen iDANS Festivali’nin en önemli projesi oldu. Kritik Çaba adı altında bir araya gelen ve festival süresince gerçekleşen tüm performansları izleyerek değerlendiren eleştirmenlerden de tam not alarak 2011 Türkiye Ödülü’ne layık görüldü. Read more

Sello Pesa & Vaughn Sadie – Inhabitant

Inhabitant by Sello Pesa and Vaughn Sadie is a moving example of how hospitality can be a political act through the means of performative framing. The artists use the space of Dolapdere and its inhabitants as the object of their aesthetic-bodily and social research. The space, during the performance, becomes the site of a confused and shared guilt of spectatorship while at the same time involving everyone in the act of care for each other: the drivers who might get distracted, the performers rolling in the middle of the street, the kids who might take the performers as examples for courageous yet fatale acts all become concerns one feels the need “to do something about”.  Son yıllarda kent ölçeğinde yaşam alanlarının neoliberal politikalar çerçevesinde müdahale ve şekillendirmeye maruz kalması Türkiye’de de başlı başına inceleme konusu haline geldi. İstanbul’un dört bir yanında hala sürmekte olan mutenalaştırma çalışmaları, 90’lı yılların geri dönen kabusu müteahhit salgını, tecrit topluluklarının şehrin tüm boşluklarını doldurması gibi meselelerin yanı sıra, şehrin sakinlerinin homojenleştirilmesi ve ortalamaya dahil olmayanların çevreye tasfiye edilmesi uzak tahayyüller olmaktan çıkıp gündelik hayatta  etkilerini hep beraber yaşadığımız yakıcı sorunlar halini aldı. “Occupy [Insert your location here]”: An interview with Inhabitant artists

South African artists Sello Pesa and Vaughn Sadie performed their collaborative work Inhabitant, which focused on the habitation struggles of immigrants in the city of Johannesburg, with a new version designed for Istanbul in the frame of iDANS 05 at Dolapdere. Mirko Winkel, one of the creators of Life and Strive, performed last year centering around gated communities in Istanbul, accompanied the group as facilitator. The performance, featuring artists from Istanbul as well as immigrants from the district, was an interesting example of how a neighborhood can be transformed into a stage. Read more

The Dolapdere district in Istanbul is infamous for its traffic in rush hour and its inhabitants constituting mainly of lower income and migrant communities as well as thinner addicts and drug dealers. However it might be claimed that the neighborhood has been going through some sort of a gentrification process since Bilgi University, a private Turkish University, has years ago built one of its campuses there and a new grandiose mosque with high technology and neon lights all over, has recently been erected in the neighborhood. Allege’ın Muntazam Evreni ve Bir Potansiyelin Altını Çizmek

İDANS Festivali’nin öne çıkan isimlerinden biri haline gelen Clement Layes hem zekice tasarlanmış bir koreografiyi, hem dilini ustalıkla kuran bir beden tekniğini hem de politik/estetik düzlemde açıkça okunabilen bir eleştiriyi biraraya getiren işi Allege  ile seyircinin karşısına geçti. Güçlü mizah anlayışıyla herkese keyifli dakikalar yaşatan Layes, performans bitiminde seyirciyi yüzlerinde gülümseme ve akıllarında sorularla başabaşa bıraktı. Read more
